Lions for Lambs.

Recently watched "Lions for Lambs" on DVD on a lazy Sunday afternoon. I knew before watching it that it's a dialogue kinda movie, not senseless, park-your-brain-outside, gory-bloody, riddled with dead bodies Rambo 4 kind.

Directed by Robert Redford, "Lions" is said to be making a cool USD25 mil loss, as it only sold for USD14 mil in US and about USD25 mil elsewhere. In all aspects, the film shouldn't cost an arm and a leg to make as there were really no expensive explosive packed scene or high tech special effects. The losses were probably due to the big guns' paycheck. Of course, to compensate the lack of exciting action pack sequence and blood spills, they actually had great acting. All main characters in "Lions" were totally believable in their roles, including Tom Cruise. His over-kill acting worked very well for the role of a flamboyant, suave, smooth talking Senator/Politician/Future President.

The film involves 3 different sets of people whose lives intersected to make the story whole. I know, sounds like Babel, but for the record, Babel was better.

A NY Times critique summarises it pretty well, "It tells us everything most of us know already, including the fact that politicians lie, journalists fail and youth flounders."

My personal conclusion? Worth a watch, not as disturbing as I thought. Predictable outcome though.
